The bike season is young, the winter season has just come to an end. Not only does nature have to get used to spring and summer, we also need a leisurely start to the biking season, so as not to overstrain ourselves from the start. Maybe our bike skills are rusty or our muscles need a bit more to get used to the stress of mountain biking.
Good thing we are in the Hochkönig region. At the gates of Maria Alm, there are plenty of easy and fairly easy tours, which are particularly suitable for the start of the biking season. Now is the best time to take a step by step to the most beautiful tours in the region. That does not mean that the fun on tour comes too short, on the flow trails around Maria Alm is enough fun, without having to go directly to the driving limits.
The sun is high – we start in the direction of NATRUN
The morning is fresh at the foot of Hochkönig and Steinernem Meer – the mountains are still shrouded in wintery white. Our tour starts directly at the Bike Point in Maria Alm, where we still have supplied us with the best material. The boys and girls around Max have put us on the latest bikes on the market. Let’s see what they can do, probably more than us. Out at the door, up on the planer and off you go on the bike path towards the center of Maria Alm.
We roll comfortably to Maria Alm, where the tour begins to climb just behind the local area. With the party our Max from Bike Point, who will give us some tips on tour. Max has expertly serviced our brand new bikes before our start. He seems to be in a good mood, our bikes take the first climb quite relaxed. I try to stay on the heels of our “guide” and engage him in a conversation. Not only because I’m curious, where today’s tour will take us, I do not want to give the impression of being out of breath. Between us – but it’s me, the tour is increasing more and more.
Turn after turn
Let’s get closer to the summit of the local mountain of Maria Alm the Natrun. Max tells, I listen to his stories and stop from time to time to take photos. Not only because of the breaks, the weather for photography could not be better today. Green meadows, blooming flowers and the partly still white stone mountains around the Hochkönig – wonderful. Mountain bike heart, what more do you need? Cooling? It is still too early to jump into the new reservoir at the top of Natrun. If you are really hard-boiled, you might think about jumping into the cold, but a few months ago artificial snow was created with the water from the pond, it is certainly freezing cold!
Cool trails, lots of flow, beautiful views
From the highest point of Natrun to the beautifully situated Jufenalm we take a flowig to driving trail. Here it is again, that trail-surf feeling I’ve missed so much during the winter; flying through bends and “riding” through flowy trail passages can be quite enjoyable. In these great conditions high above Maria Alm, the Jufenalm is reached quickly. Soon we enjoy some fantastic views in the direction of the Hochkönig and then it goes in the direction of Flow TrailONE in the valley to Maria Alm.
The Flow-TrailONE is a real bike treat. Beautiful curves, sporty residents and no technical difficulties make it the highlight of a great pleasure bike tour in the early season. Beautifully he winds through the forest on the slopes of Natrun, until he spits out the bikers right in the center of Maria Alm at the valley station of the cable car again. Once the summer season has come to a full start, the mountain railway will get you back up in a few minutes and the descent over the Flow TrailONE will start again.
